School Council
We believe that children have the right to give their opinions freely on issues that affect them and that adults should listen to children and take them seriously. Pupil Voice allows all children to become Ambassadors of Change.
Pupil Voice is one of our School Drivers. We give the children many opportunities to share their opinions, give their views and comment on issues within and beyond school.
Springfield Junior’s School Council is made up of children who have been democratically elected by their classmates. The Council consists of at least 1 student from each class throughout the school representing the diversity of our community. The School Council meets regularly sharing ideas raised by classmates, discussing issues from the school's leadership team.
2024 - 2025
September 2024
In the first few weeks of the Autumn term pupils in each class were asked if they would be interested in joining school council this year. They then had to produce a speech to present to their class as to why they would make an excellent school council representative. Class elections were then held to vote for their chosen representative which has now formed the 2024/25 Springfield School council.
October 2024
The first few meetings centred around discussing school councils’ roles and responsibilities and producing a ‘child-friendly’ safeguarding policy. The policy was then shared in each class by their school council representative and a physical copy is available for pupils to look at in each classroom.
November/December 2024
The school councils next agenda was to look at the most recent pupil surveys that were conducted in the summer term to discuss possible developments that could be made in school. It was evident that many pupils did not attend a club or feel there was a club suited to their interests. The school council then conducted a survey to see which clubs pupils would like to have in school. They have brought forward some suggestions based on each class’ votes and are in the process of producing an action plan with Mrs Viner to make this happen.
2023 - 2024
Last year the School Council was busy looking at the positives of playtime and what improvements they would like to see. They had a more active role at lunchtime as a part of the play team to make sure pupils were respectful and safe. Council members were also involved in the recruitment of new members of staff and welcoming visitors to our school.
